Michael (Mieczysław) came from Poland: from Tarnów. As a young 19-year-old soldier, he went to war in September 1939 on the ORP BURZA (STORM) ship as a mechanic. Until the end of the war, he served in the British allied navy under the command of Lord Mountbatten. He also sailed with transports to Murmansk. Severely injured, he survived the sinking ship and settled in Great Britain, working at Aller Park School. He was my beloved uncle. I visited him at Aller Park three times. On the family tomb in Tarnów, I commemorated his war merits (photo).
